The 'Green Lamp' uplighter uses a unique and fully replaceable 65W compact fluorescent bulb so that it illuminates just like a halogen, but consumes just 20% of the energy. Green Lamp is fully dimmable via a small dial on the stalk of the unit and because the bulb is energy efficient it will not get dangerously hot or act as an unpleasant fly incinerator unlike a halogen. Halogens are often marketed as 'efficient, this is misleading as although they are slightly better than incandescents they are still far less efficient than CFL bulbs. A good rule of thumb is that a CFL will use about 20% of the energy of an incandescent and about 25% of the energy of a halogen bulb of the same light output in lumens.
